BSI was founded in 1984 by Jim Schaaf and his son Tim — two builders who believed in doing things the right way from the start. As the company began to grow, son Dan joined the team, and from those early days in Erie, BSI has grown into one of the tri-state region’s most respected general contractors, serving commercial, industrial, and residential clients across Pennsylvania, Ohio, and New York.
Four generations later, BSI remains privately held and family-run, still guided by the same principles that launched us. We don’t cut corners. We show up, we communicate, and we own the outcome.
Where everyone learns from the ground up
The entire Schaaf family knows the trades inside and out, from pouring footers to installing trim. The late patriarch, Jim Schaaf, passed that knowledge down to his children and grandchildren. The company’s leadership is grounded in experience, work ethic, and a shared commitment to doing things right.
